We’re big advocates of regulating the hair and beauty industry here at Who Can Cut It? because if we’re paying for a service, we expect a professional job but it seems some people are happy to pay for treatments from untrained staff.
Worryingly though, new research by insurance company Hiscox has found that 40% of people would let an untrained person wax them!
When we read this we were shocked, to say the least. Getting a wax is rarely a pleasant experience but the reason so many of us go to a salon to pay for it is in the hope they know what they’re doing and can do a better and more painless job than us.
The study, which included data from more than 2,000 UK adults, found that half “hated” getting a wax, yet 40% would let anyone loose on their bikini line.
The good news though is that we’re less willing to risk it when it comes to a haircut with two out of three people admitting they would trust no one except a professional to cut their hair.
The study, which can be found in full here, also found that nearly half of the UK prefers getting a haircut to any other beauty treatment, followed by 34% of people who love a massage.
Hiscox, who offer hair and beauty insurance, also revealed a huge regional divide when it came to spending on beauty treatments.
Londoners were found to have the most treatments per month, spending an average of £120, to “feel more confident”.
North of the border though Scottish respondents were found to spend an average of just £2 a month on treating themselves! We’ve no idea what treatments you can get for that price, even if the staff aren’t qualified!
